I'm in NC visiting family this week anyway, so no reason not to hit the game and celebrate the ringing in of a new era in BC football.

I was pretty pissed off by BC's performance as well as the trash talking. I saw a BC dl talking trash on the sidelines to a Navy player had unloaded a hail of obscenities at the fat fucker who had the nerve to talk like that to one of my own. I found myself rooting for both teams like a friggin soccer mom. Great game by Navy and a lucky break by BC.

bc has the worst fans in the country. for any sport. basketball fans are egregious, if it isnt an ACC game or against a ranked team, the place is the morgue that i was always told it was as a pre-frosh.
football, same deal. if it isnt a good team were facing, no one cares. we'll get several fans yeah, but everyone is gone by the 4th quarter and we dont get as many fans in the first place as such a high-ranking D-1 ACC school should.
and people wonder why we get shafted on bowls.

a huge reason i came to this school was because of its sports programs. all i heard was how bad our fans were, and i refused to believe it. but it's fucking true. we go to arguably the best all-around, all-things-considered schools in the COUNTRY, and yet our "fans" cant get out there to support our teams.
i would be embarassed to be a player on any team that gets disrespected like that.
to all the good fans that go out there any game, any time, just to cheer on the school you love, i salute you, and im proud to call myself one of you.
but to you ASSHOLES who shell out a thousand dollars over the course of two semesters just to watch ur team play clemson, duke, unc, BU, or any other high-profile team and dont bother with the other games,

I honestly think we'll see a change once the newer generations of Alumni displace the old. Also, BC has to market the team to the greater Boston community instead of keeping our games a relative secret from non-alumni. Conte Forum will fill up if you put an emphasis on selling tickets rather than overvaluing the demand for tickets and charging PSLs. Gene D gets his shot with the new coach, and Leahy's talents are best suited toward the academic and fundraising aspects of university management (and he's marvelous at both).
The problem is complacency. A vocal portion of the alumni are perfectly happy with the status quo. They seemingly have a limited knowledge of the ins-and-outs of the game of football and see a hollow 10-3 campaign as a resounding success. These are the old alumni I mentioned above. I think the newer alumni will push for ACC championships and BCS bids without tolerating the proliferation of meaningless bowl games and second place finishes which have come to define BC in recent years. Also remember, no major college program succeeds without a large number of non-alumni fans.
So market the team, improve the quality of the product, and de-emphasize the old stodgy alums and we'll be in business. I'm looking forward to 2007 and beyond, but right now it's hockey season!

I wasn't at the game, and I agree that it's tough to shell out that kind of money to watch the game. BUT that doesn't mean you can't be happy about the win and enjoy the game just because it is , in your opinion, 'meaningless.'

You continue to not answer my fundamental question, which is, if you can't be happy until it's a BCS game, why bother watching any of the games? I mean, a win over Notre Dame would be nice next year, but we've already beaten them quite a few times, so it's not like it would be PROGRESS or anything. And it doesn't count in the ACC standings so it can't send us to a BCS bowl, AKA the only games that people are allowed to care about. So I might as well cancel that trip to South Bend I had planned. Oh well
You know what - 7 years ago we were ha[[y with the Insight Bowl and the Emerald Bowl and the Mieneke Bowl, etc. The issue is, those get a little old when you seem to have hit a hard ceiling. In two of the last three years, we had a legitimate shot to get to a BCS Bowl game or at least a big second tier game. And we come out and lose to teams we should beat. Hard to call people who put the time and effort into following the team on the various blogs and boards "not real fans". They certainy care and there is nothing wrong with wanting more. This staff had peaked and a change was required. I guarantee that if BC gets to the Peach Bowl or Gator Bowl, much less a BCS game, the fans will go. Not because they only care about the big games, but because there will finally be some hope for the program.
